KOZHIKODE BRANCH PROFILE

The sixth branch in Kerala of the Southern India Regional Council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India was inaugurated at Kozhikode by the then President of the Institute, CA. Bansidhar S.Mehta at a colourful function at Hotel Alakapuri on 26 th June 1982. In this connection, the yeoman service rendered by our past president and friend, guide and philosopher, Late CA. P.A.Nair in getting the sanction of the institute for opening a branch of the Institute at Kozhikode needs to be mentioned with gratitud

The first managing committee of the branch was formed with CA. K.K.S.Nambiar as the Chairman and CA. P.R.Menon as Vice-Chairman, CA.Venugopal M.V. as Secretary, CA. T.S.Ranganathan and CA. Arjun Nedungadi V. as the members. There were only 64 members on the rolls of the branch at that time.

The Kozhikode Branch got approval to set up an examination centre at St.Joseph’s College Devagiri, Kozhikode in May 1986 with the help of Late CA. P.A.Nair. The long cherished dream of the members of the branch of housing the branch office in own premises and also possessing an auditorium for conducting regular meetings came true with the inauguration of the branch building at Cherooty Nagar by the Past President of the institute CA. R.Balakrishnan on 12 th September, 1987. An extent of about 11 cents of land at Cherooty Nagar was given to the branch for the construction of the building by Late K.P.Chandran of Kozhikode at a concessional rate. The auditorium in the branch building was named as ‘P.A.Nair Memorial Hall’ to perpetuate the memory of Late CA. P.A.Nair and his photograph was unveiled in the hall.

The Managing Committee of the branch at all times has had the whole-hearted support of the members of the branch for all its activities. The Kozhikode Branch is the first branch in Kerala to set up a Computer Centre. The Computer Centre at the branch was inaugurated by the then President CA. G.Sitharaman on 10 th October 2000. The branch got accreditation from the institute for conducting oral coaching classes and the oral coaching classes at Kozhikode was formally launched by CA. T.N.Manoharan, then Central council Member ICAI, on 21 st December 2002.In its Silver Jubilee year of 2008, Kozhikode Branch completed the construction of 2 nd floor and modified the existing first floor and ground floor. The silver Jubilee Building block housing a computer centre, class room and library, modified ground and first floors including air conditioned seminar hall, administrative office, guest room and Chairman’s cabin was inaugurated on 25 th January, 2008 by then president CA. Ved Kumar Jain. A Student’s Auditorium at third floor for accommodating the oral coaching classes was inaugurated on 4 th December 2008 by CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, then President of ICAI. With this branch was able to bring all the services required for members and students under a single roof.

On December 2nd 2021 Kozhikode Branch shifted its ITT center to a new rented building inorder to accommodate the increasing student requirements. The future plan of Branch is to set up a Center of Excellence which will include class rooms with modern facilities, a state of the art library including a digital library, a convention centre all set in a marvelous landscape.
